Fan Fare, Gaming And Learning: Gifts For The Geeks On Your List

Unless you’re a bona-fide geek yourself, it’s hard to crack the code of the geek mind. What we think might be the ultimate offering might be received with a polite “thank you” and stashed in the re-gift pile. So I crowd-sourced a list from my geekiest friends and relatives – I’m proud to say there are a lot of really smart people in my life—and came up with some solid suggestions.

Young Frankenstein: A Mel Brooks book: The Story of the Making of the Film: Especially now, since we’ve lost Gene Wilder, one of the greatest comic talents of our time. $25.49

Tesla: Inventor of the Electrical Age: Learn all about the original geek’s geek. $14.43

Victoria: The Queen: History geeks can get going on their Victorian age right here. $15.91 and up.

Loot Crate: Each month, your recipient gets a box of geek goodies. You can choose themes (pets or clothes or gaming, for example) and let the geek times roll. Starting at $8.99 for T-shirts

Mancrates: An excellent collection with an unfortunate name. They brand these as “gifts for men,” but there are plenty of women who are also in into grilling, drinking and outdoor survival. Starting at $49.99 for beer-tasting crates or $69.99 for hot-sauce making crate.

ThinkGeek: Fan-geek stuff from all the classic franchises, such as Star Wars and Star Trek, as well as new ones, like Fantastic Beasts. (Death Star waffle maker, anyone?) Starting at $19.99.

Game of Thrones 4-D puzzle: Build the world of Westeros from the ground up. Not sure what the fourth “D” stands for, but it’s probably that extra dimension of nerdiness. $34.97.

Fan Mail: Loot geared for women and curated by women fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, Gilmore Girls and other shows (but really, for anyone who loves these shows) Subscription starts at $21.99.

Anything Harry Potter: Games, puzzles, bedding wands and more. Bags start at $39.95

Anything Dr. Who: Jewelry, cufflinks, autographs for the fan on your list. One note: This is a England-based operation, so you’ll need to convert pounds into dollars and allow ample times for delivery. Mugs start at about $16.
