The official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch is almost upon us after months of waiting, hand-wringing and speculation. Here's a brief guide to help you prepare for the announcement.
What Is It? Nintendo unveils its latest console, the Switch, which it partially unveiled already late last year.
The new video game console blends the portable with the stationary, streamlining Nintendo's two biggest segments into one machine that can be played at home or on the go. So far we've only seen the barest of details about the Switch. Hopefully Nintendo can tell us a lot more about the quirky new machine.
When Is It Airing? January 12th at 11 pm EST / 8 pm PST. Why so late? Because it's being broadcast live from Tokyo, Japan. That means that if you live in London, you'll have to get up at 4 am to watch the event...or just wait until the next morning (Sorry UK friends!) That's okay, we'll have everything broken down and pieced back together for you by then...
Where to Watch: Tune into Ninteno's Twitch or YouTube channels, or visit the company's official website. Of course, we'll have the stream here at Forbes as well, and other coverage including a live-blog from our own Paul Tassi, and various other bits of news, analysis and opinion.
What to Expect: Since this is Nintendo, it's kind of hard to say what's going to happen. The Japanese game maker is notorious for head-scratching live-streams and bizarre marketing, though so far they've done a reasonably good job with the Switch. Here are some things we hope to find out in tomorrow's presentation:
In any case, stay tuned tomorrow evening for more coverage of the Switch reveal here at Forbes Games. I'm rooting for Nintendo on this one, even as I harbor various concerns about the viability of yet another largely gimmick-centered gaming console.
