New rumors are surfacing online suggesting Valve is hard at work on Left 4 Dead 3 and is targeting a 2017 release for the co-op zombie shooter.
It is said the follow-up to the 2009 hit Left 4 Dead 2 will be a prequel featuring four new characters -- three males and one female -- keeping in line with past Left 4 Dead archetypes. The protagonists this time around include a gangster named Irvin, Keenan the comic book nerd, a famous Kenpo fighter named Garrett Jr., and (finally) Katherine, whose background was noticeably absent in these reports.
There will be six separate campaigns to choose from, including the returning favorite No Mercy, plus Cliff-Hanger, Early Destination, Crashland, Impasse, and Inquisitor Land. Valve has yet to comment on any of these rumors, however, so take all of this with a huge grain of salt.
Fans have been clamoring for a new Left 4 Dead since 2009, and with the recent re-release of Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox One -- part of Microsoft's backwards compatibility program -- I think it's time for a long overdue return to the Left 4 Dead universe.
