Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 102

Holler if you hear me!

Welcome to What Games Are You Playing This Weekend, our light-hearted feature where we talk about what games we'll be enjoying this weekend. This isn't all about us, though, as we'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

Now let's get into what games we'll be playing!

This weekend, I'm thinking that the backwards compatible release of Sonic & Knuckles might well drag me in, but it'll have a fight on its hands against Jet Set Radio. Then again, there's a good chance that I'll be heading back to Rise of the Tomb Raider in preparation for Uncharted 4's launch next week. There's also the small matter of completing Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break that I STILL haven't gotten round to doing thanks...I know, I suck at life. I'll try to do better, I promise.

This weekend is all about futuristic shooty stuff as I play through Battleborn for review. Can't say too much about that, but first impressions are favourable.

Other than that, the boy has recently acquired the Marvel Battlegrounds set for Disney Infinity 3.0, so we'll be pummelling virtual recreations of all our favourite Marvel characters, which he's especially fired up for after watching and thoroughly enjoying the new Captain America film. If there's any time left, I'll carry on my NG+ run through of Dark Souls III, which has already claimed its first victim in my house. Yes, after a particularly hard boss fight, the RB button on my lovely Lunar White controller has given up the ghost. I've replaced it with the Copper Shadow one, but it doesn't have the rubber on the back or the same feel in the hand. I has a sad. RIP old friend.

It's all about Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for me. Looking forward to finishing the story.

This week has been all about Agent 47 as I have taken the plunge and bought into the new Hitman platform. The game itself is superb, with both the Paris and recently released Sapienza maps offering a ridiculous amount of content. Never has playing dress up and killing people been so much fun... But I have to admit, it's making me embrace my inner high school bully. Bogwashings FTW!

To complement the main game, I also purchased Hitman GO for the PS Vita this week. It's quirky and fun. Perfect for handheld gaming when you just want to pick something up for a short session. More of this please!

I'm stuck in one of those weird ruts right now, nothing seems to be sticking. I had a crazy time had work for a few weeks and now I have time to play games I'm restlessly starting multiple titles and leaving them for dust.

I have however found some titles to keep me occupied thanks to the good folks at Humble Bundle. Their most recent mobile bundle has some cracking games and one has gripped me to play while watching TV; This War Is Mine. A gritty, unforgiving war simulator that has you managing a household of survivors. There is some excellent story telling techniques in there with a radio tuning mechanic revealing details of the rebellion forces and their progress in the war effort. Each character also has a hauntingly realistic picture in the corner of the screen that shows off how well they are with signs of tiredness and illness appearing as you continue to let them down when it comes to providing their daily needs.

I've also been playing Dark Souls III a whole bunch, you know the score. It's hard, it's dreary, even downright depressing at times. I've impressed myself with my progress so far it's by a long way outstripped my previous efforts with the franchise. I've beaten 3 bosses and I'm on to the 4th!

I picked up Rise of the Tomb Raider and State of Decay in the sale this week, so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time experiencing the many deaths of Lara Croft.

On PC I'm still playing Stardew Valley and I am motoring through my second year. I've found myself less addicted as I seem to have hit a content gap having completed the mines in Fall of year one and not really understanding why I need to do anything in the Skull Cavern. Any advice is appreciated...
