Fable Fortune, a free-to-play collectible card game, has launched on Kickstarter after the project saw funding stopped by Microsoft.
"Set in the whimsical world of Albion, Fable Fortune is a Fable themed free-to-play collectible card game (CCG) that combines the franchise's most cherished gameplay systems with an array of pioneering game modes," reads the blurb.
The game will launch for PC (Steam & Windows Store) first, with Xbox One and mobile versions also planned.
With the Fable license intact – thanks to Microsoft granting the team at Flaming Fowl Studios use of the IP – the project can now live on if £250,000 is raised on Kickstarter.
Flaming Fowl Studios is a brand new indie games developer started by a number of long term ex-Lionhead developers, including Mike West, Craig Oman and Marcus Lynn. The game has been in development within Lionhead for the last 18 months and the team now needs your money to help finish development and bring in other Lionhead members.
In addition the Lionhead team has been working alongside Mediatonic, a long-standing independent UK developer, which is not only able to deliver the all important British humour, but has experience in the CCG genre.
At the time of writing the project has received only £22,000 since launching at 3pm yesterday, which whilst almost 10 per cent of the game's target, probably isn't the kind of first day impact the team at Flaming Fowl had hoped to make.
27 days still remain so head over the Kickstarter page for lots more info on how the game works and pledge to get your hands on a beta pretty soon.
"The good news is that a lot of core systems are already in-game, so we’re a handful of months away from Closed Beta," explains the project page. "For a game with this much content, features and polish, our initial Kickstarter goal is relatively low. If successfully funded, the money we raise will be used to complete the first six heroes and two co-op bosses, as well as fund our running costs as thousands of players are brought into the closed beta.
"When the Kickstarter ends, we aim to get the game into the hands of the gold tier backers within two months (rather than the 6-12 months common to many Kickstarters!), with the rest of the backers being added in later waves."
