New X-Files probably coming, but no sooner than 2017/18 season -

Fans can be pretty confident of seeing a new series of X-Files, but don't expect an announcement anytime soon, Fox has said during an upfront press call.

"We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson," said Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden. "I believe everyone is on board to do another instalment of the show."

He added: "Hopefully that will come together this season so that this time next year, we'll have something exciting to announce."

So when could we expect to see the new series hit TV screens? Co-chairman Gary Newman added: "As Dana said, it shouldn't be anything you anticipate before the 17-18 season."

Discussions are also ongoing regarding "what kind of episodic order makes sense," says Newman.

The recent Season 10 featured only six episodes and aired in January/February earlier this year.
