Get ready for The Great One Million (almost) Gamertag Release, giving long-standing Xbox Live Gold members the ability to snap up a long-lost tag which has been inactive for a number of years.
"We've listened to your feedback and once again Team Xbox is excited to announce the release of a large number of previously-unavailable Gamertags!" reads a post on Xbox Wire.
Nearly one million tags will be released beginning at 7pm PST tomorrow, available to Xbox Live Gold members with active subscriptions and at least one year of cumulative XBL Gold tenure. The tags will be released over a 24-hour period, in order to provide fans in all territories an equal chance to secure one.
Xbox Wire explains where the tags came from.
"These Gamertags are from the original Xbox era, the same source of Gamertags we used in our 2011 release. These accounts never migrated to Xbox 360 and as a result they have been inactive for quite some time.
The actual list won't be released, but Xbox has shared a list of categories in which many of the tags come from:
Access to the new tags will be available on Xbox.com, within the Xbox App on Windows 10 and on the Xbox One console. Xbox 360 customers will need to use Xbox.com, the Xbox App on Windows 10, or an Xbox One console to participate.
You can change your Gamertag via xbox.com/changegamertag.
Lastly, changing your Gamertag won't impact your Gamerscore, Achievements, or your Friends list.
