Just because Microsoft has decided to bring an updated Xbox One to the market in Holiday 2017, gamers should not expect to be bombarded with new hardware every year or two as is the case in the mobile phone market, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said.
"Consumer expectation is that, if you wanted to, you could go buy a new cell phone every year. I don't want to get into that mode with a console," Spencer told Wired. "I see the next inflection point as 4K, and I want to make sure we have a console there to support that, and Scorpio will do that.
"We're not on a hardware tick-tock that says I need to put out a console every two years or every one year to get people to upgrade. That's not the console model."
Scorpio is scheduled to arrive Holiday 2017 with 6 teraflops of GPU power. Pricing has yet to be discussed, but you can assume it will carry a hefty premium over the Xbox One S.
