I don’t think there’s any one type of Pokémon that get as badly knocked as Poison-types do. They’re valuable against Grass and Fighting-types, make no mistake but they’re also massively vulnerable to a wide selection of other pocket monsters. Even worse, their unique skillset can easily be countered by numerous other Pokémon that boast a convenient immunity towards poison attacks.
Time to change that then, as Pokémon Sun and Moon has a new poison-wielder to show off. It’s called Salandit, and it was revealed today at the Japan Expo by Pokémon Sun and Moon director Junichi Masuda. Here’s the trailer and description of Salandit, the social commentary on toxic masculinity Pokémon:
Salandit emits toxic gas, together with flames, from the base of its tail. This poisonous gas has a sweet smell, and anyone who unknowingly breathes it in will become dizzy. Salandit is not a very powerful Pokémon, but its cunning nature allows it to battle fiercely by throwing its opponents off balance.
So what makes Salandit a beast? Well this little guy can poison any Pokémon. Even if they’re a Steel or Poison-Type themselves. You throw in an attack like Toxic, and that’s a recipe for some battle-shattering strategy right there. He also happens to be hybrid type, a Poison and Fire-type pocket monster. I think I just found one of my six mains then, for when Pokémon Sun and Moon releases. I can’t wait to see what he evolves into.
