Microsoft will not be holding a press conference at Gamescom, the platform holder has confirmed. Instead, it plans to host a "more intimate" Xbox FanFest experience at the show, with more details set to be revealed soon.
"It’s under five weeks until gamescom 2016 and I’m excited to share the news that Xbox will give our fans the opportunity to get hands-on with the most anticipated titles for 2016 and 2017, across Xbox and Windows 10," said Xbox marketing manager Aaron Greenberg.
"From our stellar lineup of blockbusters, including Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, ReCore and Sea of Thieves, to a host of [email protected] titles including We Happy Few, Everspace and Cuphead, we can’t wait for our fans to play. This year we’re also in a brand new location – you’ll be able to find us in Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse near the north entrance.
"While we will not be hosting a media briefing this year, we’re planning a new and more intimate Xbox FanFest experience for our fans across Europe and worldwide attending gamescom 2016. We will be sharing more details on our gamescom 2016 Xbox FanFest soon."
Last year, Microsoft used Gamescom to announce Halo Wars 2 and show off the first gameplay footage of Crackdown 3. It also announced Quantum Break's release date and revealed that all future Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles would be backward compatible with Xbox One.
It isn't yet clear whether Sony will be holding a press conference this year, either, with the platform holder having sat out last year's show.
Last month, PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan said that Sony had "really enjoyed" hosting its 2015 conference at Paris Games Week, but did not confirm where it would be holding this year's European briefing.
