Hardware sales of Wii U and 3DS have declined year-on-year in the first financial quarter ended June 30, Nintendo has announced.
Wii U sales are down from 470,000 in the 2015 quarter to only 220,000, whilst 3DS sales dropped from 1.01 million to 0.94 million units – despite a slight increase of system sales in Japan.
Wii U is only forecast to sell 800,000 units by the end of March 2017, and is pretty much finished with the NX set to launch in March. Life to date Wii U sales stand at 13.02 million.
3DS isn't done just yet, though, with the November launches of Pokemon Sun and Moon giving Nintendo a reason for some sales optimism and a year sales forecast of 5 million units. Life to date 3DS sales stand at 59.79 million, despite confirmation from Nintendo that the platform had surpassed 60 million back in June.
All this meant Nintendo posted net sales of only 61.9 billion yen and an operating loss of 5.1 billion yen.
