Metal Gear Survive, a new co-op experience coming in 2017 to PS4, Xbox One, and PC - Metal Gear Survive for PS4 News

Konami has revealed Metal Gear Survive, a new co-op stealth game that is said to be a "new addition to the Metal Gear Solid V experience." The game, the first in the MGS series since creator Hideo Kojima left to form his own studio, is due for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.

According to Konami, Metal Gear Survive "takes a divergent look at the familiar Metal Gear themes and pursues a fresh spirit of exploration in unique gameplay mechanics."

"We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the Metal Gear franchise,” said Tomotada Tashiro, European President for Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. "Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.”

Survive picks up from the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, but explores an alternate timeline caused by wormholes. Players will find themselves on distorted desert landscapes, and have to share them with numerous threats - some of which look distinctly zombie-like. Up to four players must work together to stay alive.

It's not clear if key franchise characters, such as Snake, will return. No further details have been revealed.
