Here's When the Next Final Fantasy Finally Comes Out

We’ve waited the better part of a decade for it, so what’s six more months?

Square Enix says its open-world roleplaying odyssey, Final Fantasy XV, will ship at last on September 30 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game began life with a completely different name in 2006, originally dubbed Final Fantasy Versus XIII and unveiled as a subset of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII mega-verse.

If you’re a diehard Final Fantasy wonk and $60 for the base game isn’t devotional enough, Square Enix will happily take $90 for a Deluxe Edition in a steel case, a Blu-ray copy of the Final Fantasy XV feature-length tie-in film Kingsglaive and in-game bonus items. Or if you’re a spendthrift, there’s the $270 Ultimate Collector’s Edition, with all the stuff in the Deluxe Edition plus an art book, soundtrack, figurine of the protagonist (Noctis) and numerical bragging right: the UCE is limited to 30,000 units worldwide.

Here’s the trailer for Sony and Square Enix’s direct to disc tie-in flick, Kingsglaive, starring Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Aaron Paul.
