Microsoft Is Officially Killing Off the Xbox 360

If you have an Xbox 360 laying around, it’s about to be vintage.

Microsoft will no longer make new Xbox 360 units, the Redmond, Calif.-based firm announced Wednesday. However, it will keep selling existing stock. Those who really want to get their hands on the second console in Microsoft’s lineup will probably have plenty of luck on sites like eBay, too.

“Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles,” wrote Xbox chief Phil Spencer in a blog post. “We will continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles, with availability varying by country.”

The Xbox 360 first hit store shelves in late 2005, replacing the original Xbox. Microsoft introduced its current console, the Xbox One, in 2013.
