Google event live blog: Pixel smartphones, Daydream VR, and more

If the numerous leaks and rumors are to be believed, this is going to be a big day for Google. New smartphones, VR equipment, and a 4K streaming stick are expected to be seen at today’s Made By Google event, and we’ll be covering it live. Check back here at 12pm ET, watch the live stream, and follow along with our live blog.

The Pixels, Google’s pair of in-house smartphones, have been thoroughly leaked ahead of time. The standard 5-inch Pixel seems to have a 1080p display, and the 5.5-inch XL model will sport a 1440p resolution. It’ll be nice to have a new flagship Android phone around, but PCMag’s Sascha Segan is skeptical about the impact Google’s hardware will have.

Google first laid out the plans for Daydream VR earlier this year, but there’s a good chance we’ll get some more information about this upcoming standard and ecosystem. And with the PSVR launching next week, there’s a chance that virtual reality might get a second wind here in Q4.

Rumor has it that we’ll also get a better look at Google Home (an Amazon Echo competitor), a 4K Chromecast, and perhaps a new tablet. But if this event’s announcement is any indicator, the Pixel is probably going to be the focus
